Prior to joining Facebook last year\, Paul served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of California. During his judicial tenure\, he was appointed by Chief Justice Roberts to the Magistrate Judges Education Committee of the Federal Judicial Center. \nBefore his appointment to the bench\, Paul was an intellectual property litigation partner at Day Casebeer LLP (later merged with Howrey LLP)\, where he served on the firm’s management committee. Paul has tried cases from Marshall\, Texas to Wilmington\, Delaware\, and has argued before numerous federal appellate courts. SUMMARY:Insider's Perspective of SCOTUS with Pratik Shah and Tejinder Singh
DESCRIPTION:Supreme Court Practitioners Pratik Shah (co-head of Akin Gump’s Supreme Court and Appellate practice) and Tejinder Singh (Partner\, Goldstein & Russell\, P.C.) will discuss the most important issues affecting the Court today\, particularly the impact of the vacancy on the Court and its ability to decide cases in the current and upcoming term. They will address some of the recent decisions issued by the Court and how the Court is impacted by the absence of a ninth justice: Zubik v. Burwell\, Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association\, and Spokeo\, Inc. v. Robins. They will address some of the prominent outstanding cases\, including a brief summary with predictions for outcomes: Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt\, US v. Texas\, and Fisher v. UT Austin. As we are in Delaware\, there will be a discussion of Cuozzo Speed Technologies\, LLC v. Lee. Finally\, we will end with a brief discussion of the nomination and confirmation process for Judge Merrick Garland.

After graduating from the University of Virginia\, she worked at WUSA TV in Washington DC and WSVN TV in Miami before heading off to law school. She received her JD from New York University School of Law in 2002\, clerked on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia and worked as an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.
